US Strengthens F-16 Support for Pakistan with $488 Million Radar Contract

The United States Air Force has awarded a significant $488 million contract to Northrop Grumman for long-term engineering and technical support of F-16 radar systems. The agreement includes multiple partner nations, with Pakistan among the key beneficiaries.

Under the contract, critical radar systems such as the APG-66 and APG-68 will receive sustained maintenance and upgrades through 2036. These systems are essential to the operational effectiveness of the F-16 Fighting Falcon, enabling enhanced target detection, tracking, and combat performance.

This development reflects Washington’s continued commitment to supporting allied air forces under the Foreign Military Sales programme. The initiative allows partner countries to maintain and modernize their defense capabilities with US support, ensuring long-term operational readiness.

The radar support contract follows an earlier proposed $686 million upgrade package aimed specifically at Pakistan’s F-16 fleet. That package includes advanced avionics, secure communication systems, and training support designed to boost both capability and interoperability with allied forces.

Together, these efforts highlight the enduring defense cooperation between the United States and Pakistan. By focusing on modernization and sustainment, both countries aim to extend the service life of Pakistan’s F-16 aircraft while enhancing mission readiness and regional security coordination.

As global security dynamics continue to evolve, such agreements underscore the importance of maintaining technologically advanced and well-supported air forces. For Pakistan, this partnership ensures its F-16 fleet remains capable, reliable, and aligned with modern operational standards for years to come.
